Ayurveda Through the Year: June

Ayurveda Through the Year: June

Let the Heat Teach You to Slow Down

Dear friends,

June has arrived. ☀️
For many of us, it’s the heart of summer — vacations, longer days, social plans, and perhaps a push to “make the most of it.”

But in Ayurveda, June is not about speeding up.
It’s about learning a sacred rhythm:

🌿 “When the sun is strongest, the soul must stay soft.” 🌿

This is peak Pitta season — where fire is fully alive in nature and in us. And while fire gives us power, it also demands humility.

🔥 JUNE DOSHA SNAPSHOT

  • Dominant Dosha: Pitta (fire + water)
  • Qualities to balance: Heat, intensity, sharpness
  • Core lesson: Calm the fire before it burns you out

What to Do in June

  • Wake early, and enjoy cool mornings for meditation or walking
  • Avoid being outside during peak heat (10 AM – 4 PM)
  • Take pauses: insert a short rest between tasks
  • Cooling pranayama: Try Sheetali (the tongue curl breath)
  • Add water rituals: cooling showers, dips in lakes, or even just soaking your feet in cool water

Spiritual suggestion: Journal with the question:
“What am I forcing that wants to unfold?”

What to Avoid in June

  • Overexposure to heat: long runs, hot yoga, or mid-day outdoor exercise
  • Loud social scenes or overbooking your calendar
  • Highly competitive energy — internal or external
  • Fiery emotions: anger, criticism, impatience
  • Cooking with too many heating spices (e.g., chili, mustard seeds)

🍽 FOOD GUIDE: Pitta-Cooling Nourishment

🟢 Favorable Foods:

  • Leafy greens (except spinach), asparagus, bitter melon
  • Coconut water, almond milk, and juicy fruits (pears, mangoes, melons)
  • Basmati rice, quinoa, barley
  • Herbs like coriander, fennel, mint, rose
  • Ghee (moderate), sunflower oil

🔴 Reduce/Skip:

  • Tomatoes, eggplant, garlic, onions
  • Fermented and fried foods
  • Vinegar, alcohol, red meat
  • Coffee, black tea, and chili peppers

🧴 AYURVEDIC BODY & MIND CARE: Moon Ritual + Rose Mist

🕯️ A powerful June ritual:

Each evening, step outside or near a window.
Look at the moon (or feel the night air).
Place your right hand on your heart and repeat silently:

“I release the need to rush. I choose peace over pressure.”

Also try a daily spritz of rose water on your face and neck.
Rose calms Pitta, hydrates skin, and cools emotional energy.

🥗 Simple Cooling Snack: Cucumber Mint Yogurt Dip (Raita)

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup organic plain yogurt (or plant-based)
  • ½ cucumber (grated or finely chopped)
  • Fresh mint leaves, chopped
  • Pinch of cumin + salt to taste

Mix well. Enjoy as a dip with flatbread, or as a side to a light lunch.

🌕 June Reflection

Sometimes, our biggest healing doesn’t come from doing more.
It comes from honoring the heat, and adjusting with care.

Let this month be about pacing with love.
Lead from coolness. Speak with softness. And find the quiet joy in just… being.

With love and balance,
Martin & Monika
