Ayurveda Through the Year: April
Inviting Renewal & Gentle Energy
Dear friends,
April is a month of potential.
The sun is getting stronger, flowers begin to bloom, and the energy around us whispers, “It’s time to begin again.”
But it’s also when Kapha and Pitta start to overlap — and that can feel… a little odd.
You might feel:
- More energy — but also lingering heaviness
- A stronger appetite — but sluggish digestion
- Excitement to do more — mixed with irritability
- A desire for new routines — but some emotional stuckness
Sound familiar?
Ayurveda says: April is a bridge.
The still-heavy qualities of Kapha begin to give way to the heat and intensity of Pitta.
So the key is to move, refresh, and cleanse — without overdoing it.
🌦 APRIL DOSHA SNAPSHOT
- Dominant Doshas: Kapha decreasing, Pitta beginning to rise
- Qualities to balance: Heaviness, dampness, rising heat
- Key goal: Support gentle detox, awaken digestion, create momentum
✅ Recommended Practices This Month
- Wake early (before 6:30 AM) and move — even a walk or 15 mins of yoga helps
- Dry brushing or garshana to stimulate lymph and circulation
- Tongue scraping + warm water in the morning to support detox
- Light fasting or mono meals once a week (like kitchari or simple soup)
- Journaling or spring goal-setting – connect with your “why”
❌ What to Avoid in April
- Skipping meals (your digestion is waking up — use it wisely!)
- Eating late at night
- Overstimulating activities when the mind feels sensitive
- Holding onto winter habits: heavy dinners, long naps, too much screen time
- Overcommitting — honor your energy rising gradually
🍽 FOOD FOCUS: Bitter, Astringent, Light
🟢 Eat more of:
- Leafy greens: spinach, kale, dandelion
- Sprouted grains & mung beans
- Light root veggies: carrots, beets, radish
- Herbal teas: cumin-coriander-fennel, peppermint, nettle
- Cooling spices: turmeric, coriander, fennel, cardamom
🔴 Cut down on:
- Oily, fried, or creamy foods
- Red meat and cheese
- Too much salt or sugar
- Processed or leftover food
🧖♀️ AYURVEDIC BODY CARE: Neem Oil & Dry Brush
April is perfect for dry brushing to wake up your skin and lymph.
How:
- Use a natural bristle brush before your shower
- Brush toward the heart with long strokes
- After, massage lightly with warm neem oil or coconut oil (for cooling)
It clears stagnation and welcomes new energy.

🌱 April Reflection
The season invites you to step forward.
Not all at once — but steadily.
What have you been carrying from winter that you’re ready to release?
Where is new energy asking to be born?
April isn’t about doing more — it’s about doing what matters with fresh clarity.
With warmth and presence,
Martin & Monika
